Three months after Microsoft abruptly close the studio, Hi-Fi noise Developer Tango Gameworks is revived by PUBG Publisher Krafton. The company owns both the studio and the rights to the Hi-Fi noise IP and plans to expand the rhythm-based action game as part of the acquisition. So not only is the studio getting a new lease of life under new management, but the little passion project that could have been will now live on instead of dying out after one excellent game.
Accordingly Krafton’s press release In the acquisition, the publisher says it is working with Xbox and ZeniMax to “ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity” at the studio, which Krafton said in its press release will allow the studio to “continue the development of the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects.” The announcement also makes it clear that Tango Gameworks’ previous games like the original Hi-Fi noise, The evil within Series and Ghostwire: Tokyo will remain in the digital stores even after the studio is converted.
This is such good news after the tragic, senseless closure of Tango Gameworks earlier this year. The Hi-Fi noise Developer was only one of three studios that Microsoft closed in May, but the obvious success of the rhythm action game a year earlier made it all the more shocking. Consequences that followed has has significantly damaged the reputation of Xbox managementas it is one of the most conspicuous closures in a year full of industry turnover. Although we do not know what Tango Gameworks will specifically develop next year, Hi-Fi noise universe after that, it is at least good to know that the future of the studio and the series looks bright again. The game never came to the Switch, despite rumors earlier this yearso this port may still be planned.
If you haven’t played Hi-Fi noiseI just listened to it again recently and it’s still there. I bet it feels even more cathartic in light of this news.
