“People don't understand how close D&D and wrestling are,” said Brennan Lee Mulligan. And he speaks from an informed perspective and rings a Dimension 20: Titan removed This week into the world.
In the new four-episode season of the long-standing anthology game show, Mulligan organizes four WWE superstars Xavians Woods, Kofi Kingston, Bayley and Chelsea Green-to a game that plays in a professional wrestling theme-across rhyming. And despite her brevity, the season has become a playground for wrestling lovers Dimension 20 Veterans who were welcomed in a number of additional skits and pieces to celebrate their own fandom.
The parallels between professional wrestling and actual game dungeons & dragons are easy to find, and when igamesnews is chatting Mulligan We started with the obvious via video call last week. He felt that his entire career was attributable to this: Play every heel?
“The dungeon master should simply be called the all-Heel,” said Mulligan. “It is the heel of all heels; you play every heel, and it is your job to be big and stormy and then lose, and that's what people want to see. It is a pleasure. I am flown to them with all the dear and passion that I could raise.”

Polygon: Are you a wrestling fan from the back or are you something that you later introduced in life or for the show?
Brennan Lee Mulligan: Later in life; I had the pleasure that the honor – I wish everyone in the world could be so happy that they are friends with the magnificent Danielle Radford [comedian and co-host of the Tights and Fights podcast]. Danielle is a super Maven wrestling and comedy.
I've always been a fan of wrestling because many people are tangent fans of D&D, where they are as they are. Oh, that looks funny, but nobody invited me to take part. I don't have a ramp. I am not in the house of a friend where you watch it, my parents don't look at it. So it is the thing that appears cool, but I'm not being pulled in.
There are working in the comedy So Many comedians who are huge wrestling fans. And Danielle took me by the hand – especially on the way when this season approached – and went how. Here are the historical games, here is the tradition, here is the jargon, here is the encyclopedia. She created this beautiful document for the season, came through and said: “Here are the games you have to see to understand these four players.”
After years of being like Oh, that seems cool, but I don't see any organic way to take partDanielle could no longer have thrown out a royal red carpet for me and all of this D20 People who finally wanted to be involved. And it was a pleasure, a privilege and an honor.
I've always been in a similar boat, but the attractiveness of wrestling clicked for me when I found out what Kayfabe means. I thought I Oh, it's like the Muppets. It is a performance of a service.
Hey, listen to, Kayfabe is everywhere around us. Anyone who ever had to visit their grandma knows that they are not the same person everywhere, right? You go, [soft, cheerful voice] “Hello grandma. It's nice to see you!” We present these masks; We present these pages from us. Kayfabe is a really useful concept, and I think it's great that it enters into the community. It is a useful term, especially in the age of social media [mildly deranged voice] Where we are all actors, Susana, we are all performers …
Oh god, interviews are already the Kayfabe area that I occupy. This is a level of metate text. I am not sure if I am able to process.
Dimension 20 has always recorded players of different experience with dungeons & dragons. But the last seasons like Dungeons and drag Queens And Titan removed As an actor, I really stretched out on new players. What is in your game book to not only present a player in a game that you did not play, but also an actor of this type of performance that you have never made before?
The best thing I always say is: don't worry about the rules. And I really try to remind people that I am a living encyclopedia. I would like: “You should just get out to open air and I'll build a bridge under you. You can't go wrong. Don't be afraid.” And even try to remind people from the fact that it is the story first, the second game.
By that I mean, it is not that the game doesn't matter – it is the case that people literally come with a game mentality to say: “Wait, so how do we win? Can we die? What is going on? What happens if we die, we lose the game?” And you are like: “No, you make a different character …”
It's very funny because it is not even a debate. It's history at first. The game is the story first. There is no condition, there is no state of profit. The game ends when you're done when you tell your story, it is built into the bones of the matter. And so: people are reminiscent of it [is the first step]. But the truth is a lot of “a beginner for the game” [stuff] Is incredibly advantageous for the show. It is really helpful. It creates a ramp for people who can come and find a season that is really accessible.
It's so funny, we did it Dungeons and drag QueensWhat many first players were and what is so funny that you think Oh, it will be like a Reese's Cup; Your peanut butter climbed into my chocolate. Fans of Drag and fans of D&D can exceed and find these other media and actors. It was so funny that many people were approaching this season as people who did not come from either, but it was a good ramp to learn both.
The fact that they are at another beginner creates this really interesting opportunity to jump and go in the beginning of something. Oh, you explain the game to these actors and it is an easy structure for me when I come in. I think that with Titan removedIt was really great because they see APEX actors at the top of these skills and learn something new, but are absolutely so entertaining and charming that it is a wild trip while learning with them.
Perhaps this is a question that was wrongly asked, because all play groups will be different in their own way, but were there unexpected differences between the introduction of a group of drag performances into the game and the introduction of a group of wrestling actors into the game?
Yes, I think I would say no. I would say that they are just wonderful. They are just wonderful.
Dungeons and drag Queens I just won the best web series at the Queerty Awards, on stage with Monét and Bob and our incredible producer Ebony Hardin – which is the vast major producer for dropout, but was also our production coordinator and producer of Day One in the future Dimension 20. They are just phenomenal people.
They meet them on the first day and you see these people who are fairly famous and they are simply the most down -to -earth and funniest and most sociable. The cameras are not like the rivalry of Bob and Monéts, who make shots on each other [even] Roles, it's just delightful. And the same was for these wrestlers, they were simply the warmest and most incredible ones [presences]. And again to see this facility and this charm – I would say that the cool thing was stories.
If you are someone who approaches this as a D&D fan who sees wrestler for the first time, you could consider it as the obviously sporty, incredible actor. You see the large, sized persona. What I immediately grabs was [that] Your facility was stories. The understanding of setting up and paying it out. Understanding these turns, of moments when something changes. There are moments in storytelling in [Titan Takedown] That you really see how safe and clever you bring a character through an experience. I think that will be really gratifying for the people who can come in and see.
Titan removed Premiere on April 2 on drops, with new episodes that are broadcast on Wednesdays to April 23.
