In the end, Netflix users can turn off the most annoying feature of the service: the default preview.
Netflix announced Thursday on Twitter that it "heard the response loudly and clearly," and added the ability for users to decide whether they wanted to see a preview of the content automatically on the Netflix home screen.
The news will definitely be announced with the congratulations of the 167 million Netflix subscribers worldwide, many of whom complaining aloud about this age-old browsing experience. The group does not include other Hollywood director Rian Johnson (The knives
To clarify, there are two different types of default on Netflix. The first is the feature of the unpopular watch – Netflix will go live and start playing the next episode of the TV show without user input.
The second is the automation of the aforementioned, fourfold Netflix user lifecycle. As this setting is on, Netflix content trailers automatically start playing behind the home screen – within seconds of the tile user. This can be very frustrating for people trying to browse the dashboard for something to watch: If they pause, say, look at movie synopsis, their trailer can start to sneer in the background while trying to read through the film.
Netflix now allows consumers to switch to both types of autoplay. Settings are directed to individual profiles in a Netflix account, so if you share your account with other members of your family, adjusting the setting in one profile will not affect others. But any change in profile settings will apply to all devices. Here's how to change them.
How to disable defaults on Netflix for preview
- Sign your Netflix account from a web browser.
- On the "Who's watching?" Screen, click on Manage profiles Button below to create a list of profile symbols. (If you look at your Netflix dashboard, mouse over the profile avatar in the top right corner of the screen; you'll see "Manage profiles" in the menu, under the list of profiles.)
- Click on the profile you want to modify.
- Less Automatic control, uncheck the preview of the "Autoplay while browsing across devices" box.
