Gigantamax Pokémon are giant, powerful forms of Pokémon Pokémon Go.

Similar to Dynamax Pokémon, which also debuted in the mainline games as part of Pokémon Sword and ShieldIn the Galar region, Gigantamax Pokémon are encountered in Max Battles.

But while Dynamax forms only increase a Pokémon’s size, the more powerful Gigantamax transformation also changes their appearance and gives them unique G-Max attacks.

This page explains how Gigantamax Pokémon work Pokémon Go and how to get more Gigantamax Pokémon, it also contains the list of all confirmed Gigantamax Pokémon so far.

Gigantamax Pokémon share many characteristics with Dynamax Pokémon, as they are a separate form of Pokémon that appear in Max Battles. This means that you cannot Gigantamax existing Pokémon in your collections, even if they are Dynamax Pokémon.

These higher-level encounters, which take place at specific times at power spots, are some of the most challenging in Pokémon Go and require battling with large numbers of players.

Once caught, Gigantamax Pokémon can be used in Max Battles, including against Dynamax Pokémon and other Gigantamax Pokémon.

You can identify a Gigantamax Pokémon at first glance by the unique icon in your collection or by looking at the Pokémon’s stats screen, where there is a “Gigantamax” drop-down menu under the weight, size, and type information, as shown in the image above.

Similar to Dynamax Pokémon as well as the standard Fast and Charged Moves, there are three Max Moves to unlock, including a G-Max Attack exclusive to this form.

Currently, You can only get Gigantamax Pokémon from Max Battles – by fighting them first and then catching them in the subsequent capture phase.

Gigantamax Pokémon are considered “six-star” encounters due to their difficulty level, and can therefore be battled by up to 40 players at a time (albeit with trainers divided into teams of four, as shown in the image above). Even with a higher player count, make sure you use your best counters at the highest levels to have a decent fight.

As with all Max Battles, only Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon may be used in these encounters. Participating in Gigantamax battles also requires Max Particles, which costs 800 MP to complete (meaning if you fail, you’ll be refunded your entry fee).

Gigantamax Pokémon also only appear at Power Spots for a limited time, usually on weekends or during special events. You can find the upcoming Gigantamax schedule at the bottom of this page.

Gigantamax battle rewards

Once the encounter is complete, you will be rewarded with:

  • XP
  • Consumables (including Golden Razz Berries and XL Candy)
  • Premier balls (used to catch the Gigantamax Pokemon you just battled)

Like Dynamax Max Battles, you can double the rewards – including the number of Premier Balls to use in the subsequent capture phase – with PokéCoins.

And similar to Dynamax Mx Battles, you can then:

  • You can place a Dynamax or Gigantamax Pokémon in the Power Spotwho will then help others in their Dyna battles for a limited time before returning to you. If it is a Gigantamax Pokemon, there is a chance that Dynamax Pokemon will spawn around this power point.
  • A chance to catch the Gigantamax Pokémon you battled in the Max Battleusing the set number of Premier Balls offered before escaping.
