How to mute the built-in microphone for PS5 controller

The PlayStation 5 controller is one of the most impressive console controllers. As well as its list of impressive features and it has a small useful microphone built-in.

Unfortunately, the microphone is also not automatically released. While you can mute it with a fast machine, it may be a little safer to change the setting and have the microphone start to mute instead. The good news is that you can do that with a quick tweak of the settings in the PlayStation 5 menu.

The first thing you will need to do is navigate the PlayStation 5 settings menu using the gear in the top right corner. Next, scroll down to the “Audio” section of the settings menu. When you are in the audio menu, select the “Microphone” option.

From here you can do things like change the microphone your PlayStation 5 you use – if you have a headset you want to use instead of a controller, for example. To mute the control microphone, make sure the Input Device is set to “Microphone on Controller” and navigate to the “Microphone Status When Logged In” option.

This will bring the option of turning on the microphone when you log in to your console, or mute it. Switch this option to mute and you won’t have to worry that your PlayStation 5 collects any background noise by accident that was not intended by its online colleagues.
