Maul is one of the best and most famous cosplayers in the world, a man whose work we’ve featured here for everything God of War To Assassin’s Creed to, again and again, The Witcher. However, his latest shoot could be his best yet.
To commemorate the anniversary of superman Comic debut in 1938, Maul took to the skies over Cologne (home of GamesCom!) to pay tribute to a character who is “my absolute hero”. With a crane, some cables, harnesses and a not inconsiderable amount of courage, mouth and Emilia Wellrock
Pulling this off naturally required a whole team of people working behind the scenes. First, it should be noted that Maul – who is a stuntman by training – didn’t just wake up one day and fund this whole thing from his billionaire cosplay holdings; The shoot was sponsored by Pringles as are many big budget cosplay features these days.
He also had to work with Warner Bros. and DC production concepta film and effects studio specializing in this type of vehicle stunts. Parallel Life, a company that works with television and film studios to create world-class costumesmade Maul’s suit (it’s black to match his favorite superman cartoons). Jun Kim took the photoswith eosAndy—another person we have introduced here a much– on editorial duties.
However, all this organization and work was more than worth it when you see the results. Maul and Wellrock were finally hoisted 70 meters (230 feet) in the air above the city for most shots:
Except for this one, shot on the ground, with Maul (and a crane) holding up a van:
And yes, OK, there had to be one few Some machining required to get rid of the wires, but that doesn’t count.
You can see the full gallery of footage on Maul’s Facebook page, and below is the first of two short videos showing some of the prep work that went into it all:
And here’s a clip uploaded by Wellrock showing the couple taking off:
