Do you remember the interactive silent Hill which premiered last November and was really bad? Did you know that it was several months before the final chapter premiered on May 2nd? I had Silent Hill: Ascension from my memory, but now that I have learned that there seems to be a Contest to have custom characters appear in the game as NPCs, I can’t stop thinking about it. This is because fans speculate that viewers have managed to get characters modeled after Hideo Kojima, who famously alienated out of silent Hill Developer Konami, in Rise.

I first noticed this when a fan of the streamer Super Eyepatch Wolf reported the phenomenon on X (formerly Twitter). I had to see what was going on because the idea that someone could have brought a character that looked like Kojima onto the show was hilarious, but that there could have been multiple ones seemed almost impossible. Thankfully he uploaded VODs for his stream on Youtube. At minute 3:20, Super Eyepatch Wolf stops the game completely when a long-haired man who looks very similar to Kojima appears in a scene.

Some other appearances of “Kojima-like” do not look quite like the Death Stranding Developer. The ones questioning Super Eyepatch Wolf at the 51:49 and 1:01:13 marks only resemble him in that they also wear glasses, but the one at 3:20 looks much more like him, just with some really luxurious curls to go with it. Part of me wonders if that’s just Silent Hill: Ascension‘S The character creation tools are very limited, so the characters end up sharing a handful of traits that happen to overlap with Kojima’s appearance, like the glasses and beard. But it’s amusing to think that even one person specifically wanted to include the developer in his former employer’s game as a protest.

Kojima’s dispute with Konami was heavily publicized and already speculated in 2015. It got so ugly that Geoff Keighley, who rarely talks about anything unpleasant in the industry, challenged Konami during the Game Awards this year. While Kojima is most often involved with Metal gearone of his last projects under Konami was Silent Hillsa cancelled game that was played together with Pan’s Labyrinth And Shape of Water – The Secret of Water Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The two later worked together on Death StrandingDel Toro was the model for the character Deadman.
