It’s finally time for a new civilization game from Sid Meier

4X, Civ, Civilization, Civilization II, Civilization IV, Civilization V., finally, game, Games, Humanity, Meier, my city, Play video, SID, time, video games, Windows games

The civilization Series has been with us for so long that sometimes it can feel like a part of the furniture. A game comes out, is played for years, another follows, repeats until the heat death of the universe. But it’s actually been a long time since the last game!

Here is a timeline of the series’ major releases:

civilization (1991)

Civilization II (1996)

Civilization III (2001)

Civilization IV (2005)

civilization v (2010)

Civilization VI (2016)

As you can see, this is currently the longest stretch we’ve had between games civilization history, at seven years old and counting. It is a drought that has been pronounced in recent years; while Firaxis has done things like releasing leader packs as DLC, Civilization VI itself has become a tired old thing and has found its place on the 4X strategy deck that is challenged by everything Stellaris To Humanity.

Perhaps the series’ Twitter account sensed this and posted the following over the weekend:

The rational part of me knows that was the case. It would have been the case, to some degree, not long after Civilization VI sent all those years ago. That’s how those long-running streaks go as soon as a game is finished, even if they get/need long-running support Civilization VI has received, there is someone Taking notes for what’s next.

The emotional part of me is now ecstatic. Like many of you, I’m a lifelong fan of this series, and like many of you (or so it seems), I’m growing increasingly desperate Civilization VI, a game that initially seemed to be trying out some really interesting things to set it apart from its predecessorsbut which ultimately succumbed to an obsession with its district improvement meta, which has come at the expense of more important things like enemy AI and combat.

I know this isn’t a correct Notice. There isn’t even one civilization vii clap logo on this tweet. But at least that’s what it announces publicly Civ VIs The days are finally drawing to a close and hopefully it won’t be too long before we see something that shows us how the series plans to approach its fourth decade of existence.

TO UPDATE: Good tweet:
