Earlier this week NBA star Klay Thompson—Who has history here—went public NBA 2K Marketing guy Ronnie Singh, both via his skill ratings in this year’s game and, more interestingly, when he appeared on an ESPN program. He has since apologized for everything.
While his rating grievances are to be expected from a pro athlete with a social media presence, I thought his comments on Singh’s guest post on NBA Today were worth a closer look. Thompson called Singh a “clown” and said, “I thought NBA on ESPN meant coverage of some of the best athletes in the world? Don’t interview a promoter…better ESPN.”
I thought he was right! While some level of involvement is inevitable, the 2K series is path too tightly knit with brands and broadcasters, which is a big reason the series has become so off-puttingand I thought it was cool that Thompson approached him about it, even though his initial approach could have been smoother.
GTime to think, though Thompson relaxed and decided an apology was in order, writing on Instagram:
I want to apologize to @ronnie2k. I was in my feelings about a fictitious review and took out my anger on him with trolling in the comments. Cyberbullying is super lame and loser behavior and I’m sorry about that bro.

He may also have been moved by Singh’s performance and banner at last night’s Golden State game against the Lakers:
That’s a shame because while his rating disagreement was really annoying, his promoter comments were solid! For those I would have liked to see Klay do the same thing I would advise any of you in the same situation:
Ah great. At least it’s a good excuse. Actually one of the best I’ve seen in the social media age!
