Breakout PC Action MMORPG Lost Ark was first released in South Korea in 2019. It was finally released in the US and Europe earlier this month. It has quickly become one of the most popular games in Steam history. with over 1.3 million active players last weekend. It is currently the number one most played game on the service, beating out the major classics such as Counterstrike: GO and dota 2 And with so many players, you better believe there are a ton of Steam reviews out there.
Overall, the Steam reviews for Lost Ark been positive. However, as the game continues to struggle with long server queues in Europe, the Diablo-like MMOs saw an increase in negative reviews. This is reflected in some of the most popular reviews on Steam, with some players even sharing various food recipes that you can prepare while waiting to go online. Other reviews comment on how they have been waiting years to play this game since Smilegate first announced it in 2013. So there was a lot of waiting between that and the server issues.
Many of the reviews, both positive and negative, express how much they enjoy the fight, often calling it satisfying and enjoyable. This is something I mentioned in my first impressions of the game. While it has a boring storyline, as other Steam reviewers have also pointed out, the fight really is the star of the show. The use of “hitstops” and large groups of enemies really helps push the action above other ARPGs. in the Lost Ark You feel super powerful basically right from the start, which is a nice change from most MMOs.
Of course, many reviews also refer to it Diablo. It’s almost impossible to talk about Lost Ark without doing this. In fact, could it be illegal? Everyone else is talking about it Diablo when talking about it Lost Ark so I did it too – better safe than sorry. Interestingly, a significant number of reviews indicate that Blizzard should consider how DiabloIV compares with Lost Ark. I’m not so sure, but there are probably some lessons to be learned from any game that resonates with so many people so quickly. (Although I think Blizzard has…other things to worry about now.)
Some Steam reviewers point out that many Lost Ark iIt’s very generic and the same, which is not wrong. They spend a lot of time collecting things to take to NPCs and then repeating that over and over again. But the numbers are going up and that’s fun.
Overall things seem to be going well Lost Ark. Even the surge in negative reviews from angry people who can’t log in seems to be slowing down after Smilegate and its partner Amazon added more servers this week. will Lost Ark continue to dominate the Steam charts for the foreseeable future? I don’t know but based on a lot of these reviews I wouldn’t bet against it.
