Coastal Witches and Toho Studios have joined forces in the near future a special set of kaiju extensions Ikoria: The Lair of Behemoths. The first print features a "Spacegodzilla, Dead Corona" card, which could not have had a bad name at the worst.
“Corona Beam” (コ ロ ナ ビ ー ム or crowning a god) the legal name of the person A Spacegodzilla attack. As Hachima Kikou points out, the Japanese card reads "Corona Beam of Death" (死 の コ ロ ナ ビ ー ム or shi no crown biimu
Coastal Witches will repair both cards, removing any nickname corona. The prepared English language card, for example, will read, “Spacegodzilla, Void Attader”In Japanese, one would be equal.
Below is a card manufacturer statement in full:
Months ago, when Ikoria: The Lair of Behemoths completed, the world was in a very different place. As we all become accustomed to the changing world of COVID-19 broadcasting, the word "corona" has come to have a new meaning.
In context, the card we want to show you makes sense when it was originally created – "Corona Beam" is a traditional Spacegodzilla breathing weapon. However, we were unable to modify our print in time to accommodate the new corona definition. The first Ikoria print will come to the shelves soon and this card will be part of the set, but we are taking steps to remove or modify the card when possible.
First, all Ikoria printers will delete this card. Second, we rename the card Magic: The Gathering Field for Spacegodzilla, an empty guard. Finally, Magic Online, who will be offering special types of Godzilla Series Monster cards to Treasure Chests, will not distribute this card.
Note that this is a special version of the Void Beckoner card, which will not be affected by any change.
Everyone's health and safety is important to us at this time. To find out more about how Wizards of Coast talks to COVID-19, please click here. Stay safe, and we appreciate your understanding and patience.
Ikoria: The Lair of Behemoths will be released on April 16.
