The genres of suspense, horror and intrigue in court games In the They usually work quite well. Stories that also try to awaken that hidden side that we rarely talk about and that we want to keep in our minds. Much more time and research is needed on mental health, and most importantly, greater societal awareness of a problem that is as invisible as it is pervasive in today’s world. Martha is Dead aims to explore those dark corners of the soul, bringing them to light and forcing us to confront or seek help from them.
We have faced your adventure in the form of running simulator without hesitation, nor the controversial censorship that has attracted so much attention in its version of Playstation 4 and 5, although finally we found out before launch that the game gives you the possibility to launch it in its censored or uncensored version (anytime you can skip these rather disturbing scenes, which we’ll talk about later).
We meet at the beginning of 1944 in San Cariano, a rural area in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. The rhythm of war is unrelenting and permeates all daily activities and relationships between people. We embody Julia
Some of these mysteries materialize in some definitely disturbing scenes, in which we see murders, mutilations, physical and verbal violence, and even an abortion, all reflected in crude ways, but that’s not essential to the game’s ultimate intent, according to the Option Omitting most of the gore scenes doesn’t hurt the story in any way.
If we experience it up close and from the first-person perspective, in order to advance in his search for the truth, we will interact with the objects and the wonderful landscapes that the small area of Tuscany where the story takes place offers us additional use a mechanic based on photography that, while unrelated to the horror genre (I’m looking at you, Project Zero / Fatal Frame), faces it in a much more leisurely, calm way than it would on it point out that the protagonist feels more secure in what she is doing in these moments.
So Giulia has to go in search of clues that she is going to take pictures and for this she needs all kinds of camera accessories, rolls of film, different lenses and filters to get the perfect picture. Although the development process has been simplified, needless to say, it has been perfectly documented and implemented in the game, which is a masterclass we thoroughly enjoyed.
In addition to her photographs, Giulia also acts as an omniscient narrator who, thanks to her inner monologue, also gives us clues as to where to go and what to look for in the investigation. This may simplify some gameplay that isn’t something to write home about, but it’s appreciated that it allows us to focus on the story and don’t waste too much time We walk around without being sure about our next step, as is the case in other similar titles.
Unfortunately, Martha is Dead has a technical part that is as chilling as its story. We had infinite patience to be able to reach the end of his adventure, which revolves around 5.5 hours. Countless loading errors and bugs having the error screen pop up on the PS5 would take us out of the excitement of the game every few minutes, even at one point we had to close and restart the game because it froze. In a game with these characteristics, these types of bugs weigh down the feel of the game much more, as they interrupt the rhythm of events and some of the most important scenes are diluted due to fears that the game will end unexpectedly. To top it off, there were some visual and lighting glitches that directly prevented us from completing some of the game’s secondary objectives. While these objectives weren’t crucial to the game’s ending, we have a suspicion that they would have cleared up some of the gaps in its abrupt ending, leaving us colder than Martha herself.
The localization also does not help to improve our opinion of the game, since there are serious problems such as incorrect translations and missing subtitles that do not allow us to fully immerse ourselves in a story that in other circumstances would have had greater weight . To give you a positive point, some options of Dualsense triggers and using the controller’s speaker during in-game phone calls have been implemented well.
Martha is Dead could have been a much deeper adventure and we would have internalized it better if it weren’t for those technical flaws that blur a final product that feels incomplete.
