When TikTok disappeared over the weekend, no one was surprised. Its US ban had been circulating in Congress and the courts for over a year. But when Marvel Snap has also disappeared Fans and developers alike were shocked. The hit 2022 mobile game is now back online and playable, and the studio behind it says it's now working to ensure a surprise outage never happens again.

“Marvel Snap is back online in the USA. “But to make sure this NEVER happens again, we’re working on bringing more services in-house and working with a new publisher,” said developer Second Dinner wrote on X on Jan. 20, a day after the ban — part of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act (PAFACA) — went into effect. “This is the beginning of a new era for Marvel SnapThe team went on to say that while this will likely leave fans with “more questions than answers,” there will be more information about the state of the game and its relationship with TikTok owner ByteDance in the future.

The highest-grossing digital card game of 2023 went dark at exactly the same time TikTok went offline, although it was not mentioned in the law passed by Congress last year that aimed to ban the social media app unless its Chinese owners divest from it. His surprise disappearance appears to have been reversed after President Trump promised to intervene to delay the ban on TikTok on behalf of ByteDance until a new agreement can be found. However, the app is still missing from app stores as tech companies find themselves in a minefield of potential legal liabilities under current law.

Although not entirely ByteDance, Marvel Snap is published by Nuverseone of its subsidiaries. And unlike TikTok, which is free to use, millions of players who had invested hundreds into the trading card game universe were left with no way to access their accounts after the game disappeared. “This outage comes as a surprise to us and was not planned,” said the developers stood at the weekend. They also promised that the players “compensated” for any missed “time-based content, rewards, and missions” during the outage.

While Marvel Snap is back up and running and available on PC, the app version is still not available in the Apple and Google mobile stores. “We are working to restore availability on the App Store,” Second Dinner said confirmed overnight. “It may take some time. We’ll keep you up to date.” Now a turn-based role-playing game Marvel Strike Force is now the first result when someone searches for it Marvel Snap Available in the App and Google Play Stores.
