Melty Blood (PC, 2002) Video Game Music Review

Welcome to Morning Music, Kotaku‘s daily hangout for people who love video games and the cool sounds that they make. I mentioned to someone the other day that I was going to write Melty Bloodand they replied: “wtf is ‘Melty Blood’, that’s such a metal name!” Well.

It’s good that you don’t have to play a game or watch a movie to appreciate the soundtrack because there are only so many hours in a day and we would be missing out on a lot of great music. What makes us do it Melty Blood, a game I’ve never played before.

Debut as Doujin (fan-made) PC Fighter Slash Visual Novel (!) In 2002, Melty Blood

is one of those games the fgc describes as “Anime” which is an abbreviation for warp-speed action, air streams, revealing, sometimes infinite juggling and yes, lots of pastel-colored girls with identical faces and large, expressive eyes. (Here is a modern Melty Blood primer.) But I probably won’t dive in Melty Blood the game anytime soon. Guilty equipment XX was about as anime as my own fighting game program, as I prefer casual, measured competitions. (I’m old, okay? And I’ll move into your quarters if we ever get near one Hyper fighting Machine.)

Anyway Melty Blood (Playlist /. long game /. VGMdb). I just heard his soundtrack one day and it was love … fight first. (Yeah, that didn’t really work.) Listen:

The Melty Blood The main composer of the series is called Raito, and Intro to his website Says, “Influenced by 90s game music, I’m good at the melodic music that evolved from it.” He is right.

There’s a lot to discover in these 37 tracks, and yes, many of my favorites share their infectious melodies. My favorite could be “Elegant summer“A relaxed, jazzy number that immediately drew my attention to that fateful first hearing. Other great tracks are”The end of 1000 years, “”Noble spirit, “”encounter, “”Fearless, “”Midnight Raider,” and “Memories of once (end). “There is a lot more as this is a very rounded OST that hits a lot of sweet notes.

And that’s just music from the first game. In true Capcom fashion, this is Doujin Masterminds at Type moon and your The devhouse French Bread staff developed a number of confusingly named updates and updates-on-updates, especially from 2005 Melty Blood Act Cadenza

and 2008 Melty Blood Actress again, which is available in its final version on Steam.

Both Act Cadenza (Playlist /. VGMdb) and Actress again (Playlist /. VGMdb, embedded above) has added a fair amount of new songs and inherited older ones so if you like the 2002 original Melty Blood OST There’s so much more to discover. And that’s before you even think about Raito’s other works, like the newer anime fighter During the night at birth… yes, they really have a way with these titles. Anyway, check out Raito’s music. It is easy to acquire.
