One of the coolest new products Downfall weapons for years – the Shield Saw – which was just revealed this weekend during the Summer Game Fest 2024, is already available in the original PC version of Downfall.
Officially announced this weekend with a trailer at the big Xbox showcase, Doom: The Dark Ages is a prequel to the recent Downfall Games from id Software and looks pretty damn cool. It features a medieval-looking world and introduces new weapons, including a pistol that smashes skulls and shoots the pieces back at enemies. But one of the coolest parts of this trailer –a chainsaw shield carried by the Doom Slayer—is already a playable mod in the OG Downfall And Downfall 2.
On June 11 Downfall Modder Craneo uploaded a video on Twitter presents the Downfall Shieldsaw mod in action. The mod swaps out the original chainsaw from the classic FPS games and replaces it with the newly revealed Shieldsaw. In the video showing off the new weapon, Craneo plays the opening level of Downfall 2which conveniently hides a chainsaw (now a shield saw) right at the beginning. You can download the mod and start playing around with it right away.
As you can see in the video above, the shield saw is in Downfall And Downfall 2 can be used to rip and shred demons up close and also block damage. It seems like the player is put into god mode when you raise the shield, which is a clever way to incorporate “blocking”. You can also if you change some settingsThrow the shield at enemies and deal damage to them, just like in the big Doom: The Dark Agess trailer.
I quickly tried out the mod and had a lot of fun playing the first levels of Downfall 2 with the cool shield saw. It feels like it’s always been part of the game. I’m not sure I can go back to the chainsaw.
While this is very cool, it should not be surprising that Downfall Modder are there awesome shit again. They have been doing this for decades. And Craneo is already working on a Skull Crusher mod for OG Downfallto.
