It took a lot of work, planning, and effort, but the platform has created a custom GameCube controller that can separate and connect to the Switch tablet, allowing for hand-held gaming.
Shank Mods is a popular YouTuber who created many wild things, such as portable Wiis and GameCubes. His latest project, turning the Joycons into a GameCube controller, may be one of his most sophisticated creatures.
The full video goes through the whole process and how much of this thing is done is done.
To start the project, he separated the two Joycons and took out all the things he would need. He then splits the GameCube Wavebird controller to use as his mod body. You chose the Wavebird because it has a large back area, allowing more space for additional parts and because the Wavebird, when split in half, is the same height as the switch. Which is wild.
Most of the project did not click easily. Shank wanted the controller to be completely in line with the switch. So this means you need to add buttons to the GameCube controller for something like Share Button on Switch. It also meant adding compression power down with an analog stick, which was not possible with the GameCube controller. In addition to these buttons and other features, he reached out to other directors and video game actors.
After months of work, which involves many prototypes and trial and error, Shank Mods now has a very functional and unique GameCube controller exchanging with him. If you want to buy it, it's sad that I have bad news. The controller is not for sale.
But if you have a 3D printer, a Wavebird, some painting skills and you know that welder wiring, you can always shoot it.
