Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 arrived and brought with it some problems that had to be solved. This means the first full week of the game was packed with patches, including one that disabled weapon tuning, another that re-enabled it, and a large patch to prevent crashes.
A few days ago, developer Infinity Ward had to disable weapon tuning, allowing players to more carefully tweak their weapon’s stats using a series of customizable attachments. However, thanks to an update Thursday night, the system was turned back on and is now working as intended.
Meanwhile, Infinity Ward also released a patch on Friday that fixes a number of issues causing crashes for players on all platforms, which should hopefully improve stability. Infinity Ward also said that the latest update will fix some framerate and freezing issues, as well as some instances of lag.
A slightly strange part of the patch is its overall size. Corresponding CharlieIntel on Twitter, the update was less than a gigabyte on PC and PlayStation, while Xbox users were hit with an install of up to 50 GB. It’s not clear why the Xbox version was so big or what the differences are.
For now, it seems Infinity Ward is holding Modern Warfare 2The updates focused on performance rather than balance, but balance changes are also on the way. In Friday’s patch notes, the developer explains that he plans to spend the next few weeks monitoring everyone’s performance Modern Warfare 2‘s weapons and will be releasing a major balance patch early in the game’s first season.
