Peacock released the first full trailer for Damon Lindelof (The rest) and Tara Hernandez (Young Sheldon) upcoming sci-fi thriller series Mrs Davis on Tuesday and all we can say is hell yeah; that’s more like it. After the first, boring teaser released earlier this month, this new trailer offers a much better look into the bizarre and spooky world of a Luddite nun who is simultaneously waging a war against and for a ubiquitous artificial intelligence. This trailer finally lives up to the premise of the series.
In this new trailer, and when we wrote about the first teaser last week, Mrs. Davis plays Betty Gilpin (The hunt) as Sister Simone of Reno, a nun who becomes increasingly disillusioned with a world mediated by an all-too-familiar artificial intelligence that, like Richard Brautigan’s 1967 poem, rules all of humanity like a machine of loving grace.
When Simone is repeatedly approached by messengers from Mrs. Davis to accept a “quest” to find the “Holy Grail” – presumably the AI’s servers – she embarks on a journey that will unify with Wiley (Jake McDorman) crosses. Wiley, her ex-boyfriend, is now the leader of the resistance fighting the algorithm.
As Simone explores the world in search of the “Grail,” she is confronted with the big questions one would expect from a show produced by the man behind it Lost
It’s an intriguing setting for a sci-fi thriller series that falls somewhere between the high-concept storytelling of western world, made for loveAnd person of interest and the disrespectful’20 minutes into the future‘ Context by Lindelof Guardian
With all the recent rumors surrounding the proliferation of AI art generators and “deep fake” technology — which has become increasingly pervasive, ethically alarming, and legally questionable over the past year — Lindelof and Hernandez’s series couldn’t have come at a better time.
But the biggest question remains: Can Mrs Davis make it through the landing like the guy on the bike jumping through that giant donut? We’ll just have to wait and see. The first four episodes of Mrs Davis Premiered April 20th on Peacock.
