In September we got a first good look at the upcoming live-action film Minecraft Film. And it looked strange. Now we have a new trailer for the film, and while it still looks strange, it’s at least packed with stuff from the original Minecraft game, including spooky nighttime enemies, redstone devices, wolf taming, and even some recognizable music.
On November 19th, after releasing a behind-the-scenes video about the upcoming A Minecraft movie, Warner Bros. has released a new, extended trailer for the live-action video game adaptation based on the Mojang-developed blocky survival hit.
Here is the trailer:
We find out in the trailer Jack Black’s Steve grew up wanting to dismantle and build thingsbut was rejected because he was a small child. (I’m glad he wasn’t allowed to go down a mine shaft as a kid. That seems reasonable to me.) As an adult, he enters the mine, starts digging, and somehow ends up in the video game world of Minecraft.
Once there, we hear a song from the original game in the background as Steve explores the blocky world of Minecraft. He meets a wolf and gives it a bone, which is exactly how you tame them in the game. He also drops blocks of dirt in a row, missing a few spots, which is pretty accurate for most people in the first few minutes Minecraft. Later, we see Steve showing off his various redstone creations, including a mine cart track and a machine that kills and cooks chickens with lava. (This is something people do Minecraft.)
My favorite part of the trailer might be the moments where Steve shows off his stash and base. This is something I’ve done before when new people have joined me Minecraft
I have no idea if this movie will be any good. I still think it looks strange even though I know it is intended for children. But at least it looks like it will be filled with actual direct references to how Minecraft works and how people play it. That’s great and at least made me curious A Minecraft movie when it hits theaters on April 4, 2025.
