New world Start was plagued by a heap strange, sometimes catastrophic mistakes, but this latest one is one of the weirdest I’ve seen: you can kick other players out of the game by simply sending them certain messages.
As a player started to discover on the weekendif you put html code into a chat, the game would read it as code. One of the first things people found out was putting pictures into this chat and spamming players with random pictures that, if big enough, could fill a large section of the left screen.
Even that, as annoying as it is, is largely harmless. Even more detrimental to the player’s ability to enjoy the game is the fact that some people have also found out that the recipient’s PC is looking for this code locally, cannot find it when sending a message with a certain custom code for send an item loop around and look for it again and then crash their game.
What sounds absolutely crazy is true. This video from Callum Upton below tests the bug and shows us both how the image spamming can work and explains the text kick gap.
If you stayed after the explanation you will also have seen that the same chat box exploit can be used to spawn gold out of nowhere by making the game think you just had an item, needed to complete a quest gives you 50 gold each time.

I am not a programmer and my HTML experience is roughly enough to put an italic heading on this website, but even I know that is very bad! Amazon have disproved claims that the game is “client authoritative” after also recently finding an unrecoverable bug, but it’s still incredible that players got enough power to knock other players out of the game by simply sending them chat messages.
Anyway, the bug / exploit has since been fixed with Amazon post on the game’s forums:
Greetings advenuteres,
Today we discovered an issue where players could post pictures and other links in the chat, resulting in unsavory behavior.
We have activated a fix that should fix this problem and prevent players from abusing and exploiting this feature. This should already be activated in each region.
Thank you for your patience while we researched and fixed this issue. See you in Äternum!
