Nintendo has released the first trailer for it Nintendo Switch in 2016. The video, about three and a half minutes long, focused mostly on people playing the console in various real-world scenarios. While the trailer was likely aimed at showcasing the flexibility and adaptability of a console with handheld and TV connectivity features, it ended up showing some pretty silly – and seemingly unlikely – scenarios in which people might play the Nintendo Switch. At one point, two women at a rooftop party in the fading daylight of early evening grab a Switch to play a game while a crowd of people with red plastic cups crowd around them to watch. In another moment, a person plays a switch in the park while walking their dog.
Nintendo has revealed very little about the Switch 2, leaving experts free to speculate on key questions about its price and internal hardware specs. But of all the important questions that remain unanswered right now, I'm focusing on burning questions like: Would an outdoor rooftop party be a suitable setting for my Switch 2? And Would it be okay for my dog if I brought my Switch 2 to walk him?
Questions like these seem silly, and they are a little bit, but they're not.
Depicting the console in use is a clear way to demonstrate its key features and how the developers imagine people will use a console. Sure, the idea that someone would play the original Switch in a noisy outdoor environment may have seemed silly at the time, but it at least highlighted its portability and showed how the individual Joy-Con controllers would work when used together . If we were to see people playing the Switch 2, we could gain important insights into remaining uncertainties, such as whether or not the Joy-Con will have the functionality of a computer mouse and how big the console will be.
Even though the scenarios seemed a bit far-fetched at the time, I missed all the weirdos playing Nintendo Switch on the roof when I watched the big Switch 2 reveal.
