This gave people a chance to download and play a demo of the colorful shooter ahead of the September 9 release date. However, gamers brave enough to “play around and find out” have certainly figured it out, as apparently Nintendo’s anti-cheat system has started banning the Switch consoles of Splatfest players who have attempted to advance by modifying the game.
According to well-known Nintendo Switch dataminer OatmealDome, the game’s anti-cheat system was indeed active over the weekend. That turn 3: Splatfest World Premiere, which ran August 27-28, offered three teams to choose from – Rock, Paper, or Scissors – as well as a variety of equipment and weapons to experiment with. You’d think that would be enough to tide people over while we all wait together for the game’s official launch in a couple of weeks. But some still stepped out of bounds by downloading and using a user-created patch who skipped the tutorial and granted early access turn 3Test area of , a kind of practice lobby of the game. The patch worked, but players using it soon found their switches getting locked.
It’s unclear if these bans represent a total ban on the Nintendo Switch Online service — OatmealDome now suggests the ban may just prevent affected players from playing more turn 3 on their console – but it certainly doesn’t seem like something you want to test out.
“When I saw reports on Twitter of people getting banned because of this one patch, I was completely taken aback,” OatmealDome said my box via Twitter DMs. “Patching the game’s code would [also] get blocked turn 2.
