Developer Hello Games rolled out yesterday the 4,521,781. free updates for his popular simulation of the universe, Nobody’s heaven. Among other new features, it’s called “Outlaws” and adds a “pirate underground” crammed with an entire black market economy. But some players say it has been added too many pirates.
Nobody’s heaven, first released in 2016 for PC and PlayStation 4, is a procedurally generated space exploration game. Over the years Hello Games has been introduced more than a dozen major updates, introducing features like mechs and planetary bases into the mix. “Outlaws”, which released yesterday on all platforms, reworked how the game’s air combat works; Dogfights can now take place in the atmosphere of planets, and “pirates can raid your settlements”.
Over on the Nobody’s heaven subreddit, players say that NPC pirate attacks are a bit too common. One person shared how pirates reportedly invaded their home system six times in 10 minutes, wonder if: “Seriously!! Is this the new normal!!” Others chimed in with stories of how it is currently “broken” and “butchered”. (A clear indication of how much public opinion about the game has changed: Several player notes that while disappointed with the pirate attacks, they are optimistic about Hello’s ability to fix the problem.) A player shared a video of an invasion. You can see them roaming the ground, clearly minding their own business, as a bunch of enemy ships appear out of nowhere and hurl lasers, prompting them to jump into their vehicle and get revenge. I’m sure that player was frustrated but I won’t lie, the clip is cool AF, like something out of a movie that I definitely want to see on the big screen.

It’s not that people are angry about pirate invasions per se; this is part of the game and by most accounts a fun and welcome part at that. Players are just annoyed by the frequency with which pirates seem to appear in otherwise peaceful moments, something they only noticed after the introduction of Outlaws.
Xaine, the popular Nobody’s heaven YouTuber and Internet Personality, recently posted a video future – even if not (yet) expressly stamped for the public – updates Nobody’s heaven‘s experimental setup. Per Xaine, the next patch, which will be released soon, contains a fix for “an issue that was causing pirates to attack planetary buildings too often”. Hello Games confirmed this to my boxbut did not give a specific date.
“The issue in question has already been resolved in our experimental build, just hours after release, along with some other of our most critical issues,” said a Hello Games representative my box. “Once [it’s] Through testing, we expect this [be released] on all platforms the next day or so.”
In the meantime, be careful out there.
