I've played a lot Red Redemption II and its multiplayer mode online. During this time, I have set hundreds and hundreds of hours. And I've seen a lot of strange, cool and ugly things. But I haven't seen anything like having one player shared on RDR2 re-submit a few days ago.
The clip was posted by a Reddit DMarlow310 user and in a few hours was one of the most advanced features on It's red divide that day. The title of the post intrigued me. Someone says you see something completely new Red Redemption II it's usually followed by a picture or clip of something I've seen before or could easily explain. Not in this case.
In the short video, DMarlow310 plays a singleplayer and exits the building and passes other NPCs. For some reason, one of the NPCs who pass it gets angry at DMarlow310 and takes up the fight. Maybe DMarlow caused a ruckus in town earlier and this NPC was blown away by the wind. Whatever the reason, the NPC threatens the player and begins to become paralyzed, ready to fight. He throws a few sticks and starts to tease DMarlow310, but during the sentence a second NPC resident follows an angry NPC, grabbing him and stabbing him in the neck.
After this random assassination, the NPC just walks quietly, as if nothing has happened. Obviously, the DMarlow310 was shocked and surprised and stopped just when the clip ended.
I watched this clip a few times after my first viewing. I was looking for the obvious or probable reason that this random NPC decided to jump into battle and kill someone.
A few things I found:
- An angry NPC and a killer are separated by a beautiful space. So it is unlikely that he was just referring to an angry NPC before the video began.
- If you look closely, you can see the killer rushing into the battlefield before he can stop and slow down, crawling behind an angry NPC.
- But most interesting is that when you look back, you can see the moment the killer decides to intervene. Well done before first punch. He slaps on his feet and begins to run.
- This may not have anything to do with the murder or the surprise NPC claim, but what's up with the way Arthur opens the doors is at the beginning of the clip. His hands are crossed in a strange way.
I looked down to see if anyone had a definite answer to what happened, but no one could come up with one. A few ideas have come up and people are sharing memorable NPC stories, but nothing concrete. The popular opinion states that because DMarlow310 did not start fighting or barking back, the game marked the angry NPC as a criminal or aggressive force. So someone stepped in to protect the player.
But why this NPC? What not the NPC was about or actually, you know, watching the whole war take place? And why one NPC? Didn't anyone else want to help the man get beat up? Also, stabbing him in cold blood seems extreme. Why not look at the man or hit him from behind?
This may have been a mistake of some kind. The killer may have been direct to Arthur but instead attacked an angry NPC. It is possible. Or maybe we just saw the NPC raiding the video-game world they live in and killing someone without punishment. That the NPC knows they live in the physical world. It uses this to its advantage, not sleeping or working, instead of using bugs and game logic to climb to the top of a pitched hell.
Or it was a distraction. Maybe so …
