Super Smash Bros. is not presented at Evo 2022, the biggest fighting game event of the year. The Sony-owned esports organization announced the loss of the platformer in a statement today on Twitterand seemed to blame Nintendo for the decision, which in the past has tried to tightly control how its games are presented in the wild.
After it was revealed that the full lineup of games to be played at Evo 2022 will be announced in a live stream on Twitch on March 8th, the organization has anticipated questions about it smash bros
Evo was only online last year due to the pandemic, and 2020 canceled due to sexual misconduct accusations against the then-CEO of the tournament. Before, Smash Bros. Melee and Ultimate were both unveiled at the 2019 event. Melee, and later Smash Bros. Wii U, both became integral parts of the tournament series each year, leading to some competitive battles and moments that are now considered important moments in esports history alongside the legendary legacies of fighting game series street fighter.
However, Nintendo hasn’t always played well with Evo. The Mario Maker shamefully tried to shut down the melee Tournament at Evo 2013and insisted on not allowing the tournament to be streamed live smash bros Matches. Evo 2022 would have been the first time Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could have been featured at the event with all of its downloadable characters.
