Food fight!a notoriously terrible computer-animated comedy with product mascots, almost got a PS2-era companion game. And although the companion game was never completed, mainly because the film was stuck in development hell, we now have access to assets from the Food fight! Game and learn the full history of this thing and how it came to be.
If you are familiar with Food fight! it’s probably because it’s often cited as one of the worst movies of all time. It was scheduled for release in 2003, but numerous delays, production setbacks, and other problems meant that the CG film didn’t see the light of day until 2004. 2012 through an insurance company
We have known about the existence of this game for a long time, but not much beyond that. It was only confirmed by a small excerpt from the gameplay in some random B-roll footage from E3 2006, and then it disappeared. That changed last week thanks to a wonderful blog about Mimeohead
According to Ziggy, the author of the new blog, which Food fight! Developer Harley Howe, the game was developed for Wii, PS2, Xbox and DS. The small studio behind the game, Cat Daddy, started working on the project in 2004. The team put together some playable demos and showcased the game at E3 2006.
But as time went on, the developers realized that the people working on the film were completely overwhelmed and would probably not be able to Food fight!
The whole story, complete with some wonderful anecdotes about the director of Food fight! Arriving at the studio in a huge fur coat, is worth reading Mimeo whereD.
And hey, the whole thing has a happy ending. Food fight! helped Cat Daddy expand and work on bigger games. The studio still exists today. Howe was also able to share Assets from the project online. Even if we can’t play the unfinished demos, we can at least dig around in the models, music, and other digital parts of the companion game like video game archaeologists. And I guess Food fight! (the film) was finally released. Okay, maybe it’s not a completely happy ending.
