surveillance 2 is here, somehow. Blizzard’s first-person shooter sequel was released on Tuesday, but it was hit by some immediate, if not particularly surprising, server issues that left it unplayable for many users. Blizzard Support says it’s aware of the issues and is working to fix them now, but has no timeline for when the game will be fully functional again.
Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment, said Tuesday afternoon that “Teams are working hard on server issues surveillance 2
Ybarra later tweeted that Blizzard is also dealing with “a mass DDoS attack on our servers”.
“Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage the issue,” Ybarra said. “This causes a lot of drop/connection issues.”
The problems appear to be related over watch 2Login server from . The game already features huge login queues with so many players trying to get in at the same time. While some players make it through the queues (which number well into the thousands), others get stuck at 0 and then receive a login error message and are prompted to try again later. Meanwhile, other players are getting an “unexpected server error” message or getting disconnected when trying to load the game.
Here are the current “Known Boot Issues” for over watch 2 that Blizzard is trying to fix:
- Some players who have merged their PC and console accounts are seeing an “unexpected server error”.
- Some cosmetics, items, and currency owned by players will not appear in their collections
- Some players are experiencing server disruptions
Server issues when launching a new game are always somewhat expected, so again, they’re no real surprise. Blizzard is keeping a very close eye on the process, the developer Support accounts on Twitter are probably the best place to check the running status.
Unlike its predecessor surveillance 2 is free to play, making the downtime disappointing but not surprising. The original over watch shut down on Monday, meaning there is no other version of the game for players to jump to while waiting for Blizzard’s server maintenance.
