The first seasonal event for over watch 2 brings with it something new: a four-player cooperative PvE mode that plays like a preview of the repeatable missions Blizzard plans to bring to the game next year. But the rest of Halloween Terror 2022 feels like Blizzard is reaching out and trying to squeeze more money out of players – in a way that spoils one of Overwatch’s most popular holiday events.
The co-op mode, Junkenstein’s Revenge: Wrath of the Bride is sort of a sequel to the wave-based horde mode from Halloween Terror’s past, and it’s pretty awesome. As Ashe, Junker Queen, Kiriko, and Sojourn, players battle their way through the streets of Adlersbrunn, a spooky reimagining of the game’s Eichenwalde map. Wrath of the Bride throws waves of zombie-like robots, hostile versions of Winston (shown here as a series of vengeful gargoyles), Symmetra, and Sombra at the four-player team searching for the lord of the castle. Some light puzzles, a few jump scares, and a spooky encounter with Echo (who plays the role of creepy puppets) make Wrath of the Bride worth playing. It’s a promising look at surveillance 2is PvE.
But don’t expect much, if any, exciting rewards for Overwatch’s annual version of Halloween. Unlike previous years where players could earn dozens of cosmetics, Wrath of the Bride pays out some XP, voice lines, a weapon charm, sprays, and more. Players will receive a free Reaper skin for playing during the event as part of a rebate surveillance 2‘s rocky start.
The other big component of Halloween Terror 2022 is the ability to buy more skins surveillance 2 heroes. There are two Legendaries: Witch Kiriko and Executioner Junker Queen, and they cost 2,600 credits and 1,900 credits, respectively. That’s about $25 and $19 if you were to buy credits from the in-game shop. Alternatively, you could, for example, play the next 32 weeks earning a maximum of 60 credits per week by completing weekly challenges and hope Executioner Junker Queen returns next Halloween. (Older Halloween terror skins from the original over watch are also for sale, both individually and in bundles.)
Unsurprisingly, the combined prices of these two marquee skins are more than the cost of the original over watch on PC – were despised by many Overwatch players and content creators. A popular opinion from players on Blizzard’s own Overwatch forums is this surveillance 2The monetization style of is “Kill my enthusiasm for the game” and the Even the paid offerings feel meager. Popular Overwatch streamer Stylosa criticized the game’s pricing scheme on Twitterand later ranted about skin pricing in a heated YouTube video. Whether this setback will change Blizzard’s plans for future events (or the cost of cosmetics) remains to be seen. But with expensive skins dominating the conversation surveillance 2and Halloween Terror are a preview of events to come, something may need to change.
