The second season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has not yet started filming, but the San Diego Comic-Con panel revealed a big news in the casting: Daniel Diemer (Half of it) will join the cast as Percy’s cyclops half-brother Tyson. The character was previously played by Douglas Smith in the critically panned 2013 adaptation The sea of monsters. Hopefully CG has made great progress in the 10+ years since then!
In the books, Percy (played by Walker Scobell in the series) finds out that while his father Poseidon didn’t have any other children with mortals, he did have a child with a nature spirit (which is totally allowed), and that resulted in Tyson the Cyclops. Percy first meets Tyson at school, completely unaware of their connection (or the fact that he is actually a Cyclops).
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling book series of the same name. It is set in a world where the Greek gods are real and continue to have children with mortals. Percy is one such half-blood, a son of Poseidon. There are now several spin-off series and a whole series of other books set in this world. In 2011, the first book was adapted into a film starring Logan Lerman. Fans have not I like it. (And neither does Riordan).
This new series gives the story another chance. Season 2 will follow the second book, The sea of monsters. Filming begins next week.
