Movies aren’t just movies anymore – they are experience. Sometimes that experience is mini golf.
Earlier this month, Polygon employees Petrana Radulovic and Austen Goslin traveled to the west side of New York City to play Pixar Putt, a Pixar-themed mini golf experience. The 18-hole Pixar-style course tested their putting skills (someone has a hole in one). But as Disney experts, they couldn’t help but rate the entire hole experience. There’s a difference between a themed hole and an immersive Pixar experience. Obviously.
Pixar Putt starts on a hole associated with this summer Luca, the Italy-based sea monster adventure about friendship. Actress Emma Berman, who plays Giulia, the daughter of the brave fishmonger who befriends the sea monsters Alberto and Luca, who shared their relationship with her character, was there for our putt-putt campaign.
“We’re both very energetic and sometimes silly and awkward,” says Berman. “But she also inspires me to work so hard, and she’s a good friend and a loyal friend, a good daughter and everything. I have a relationship to her in the sense that we are both very passionate about our dreams. ”(Her favorite character, besides Giulia, as she also tells us, is Machiavelli, the grumpy cat).
Berman doesn’t greet every guest at the Luca Hole, but the connector designs for the rest of the place were on par. As Pixar fans, here’s our official Polygon Pixar Putt review.
18. The good dinosaur’s hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
Can you tell which movie this is from? Because we couldn’t at first. I had to look up a list of Pixar movies to find out which one was missing, and then I typed, “Good dinosaur gophers ??” Sure enough there is a gopher scene in Pixar’s somewhat maligned prehistoric adventure film. In my defense, I believe the only time I watched I fell asleep The good dinosaur. —Petrana Radulovic
17. The car hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
As Polygon’s Cars Stan ™, of course, I took a photo with the Lightning McQueen-style hole. And while I was very happy to see it, I couldn’t help but believe that it had more potential. That is after all cars we’re talking about it – the hole could be a racetrack! Or the desert road where Doc Hudson teaches Lightning McQueen to drift! Or just … like tires on a road! That cars Hole gets points for being conspicuous, much like Mr. McQueen himself, but … it wasn’t immersive. “Petrana.”
16. The Wall-E Hole
Photo: Petarna Radulovic
It was very cute, but that’s about it. I love EVE’s little smile. “Petrana.”
15. The creepy Toy Story 4 ventriloquist hole

In case you couldn’t tell, this pays homage to the 2019 sequel to Toy Story. I don’t like this doll guy’s lifeless eyes staring at me, but that didn’t stop me from snapping a picture where I was pretend to be it. “Petrana.”
14. Monster’s Inc. Hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
This hole is basically a first draft by a Monster Inc. Mini golf hole. It’s not bad, but it’s not exciting either. There are doors and part of the course is Sully colors so we knew right away that it was Monster Inc., but the course is narrow and didn’t allow much more than a straight detour to the finish line. –Austen
13. The life hole of a beetle
Photo: Austen Goslin
There is a leaf. The blade is curved and points straight to the hole … that’s all. –Austen
12. The forward hole
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
On the Continue Hole, there’s a van with a ramp and if you hit the ball inside, it rolls out of the tailpipe. The only problem is that the ramp is a bit smooth and uneven which means you’ll have to hit it pretty hard so the location of the ball sometimes gets weird after it comes out of the tailpipe. On the other hand, this hole had great themed elements like fantasy flags and decorations so it wins some points back there. –Austen
11. The incredible hole
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
My favorite part of the Unbelievable Hole is you can choose which member of the Parr family your golf ball will land. Interactive! The bright colors really make this hole stand out, even though the Omnidroid could be better integrated. As it stands, it’s just there so the balls can roll underneath. “Petrana.”
10. The Buzz Lightyear Hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
This hole is kind of boring and once I did it I completely missed the ramp and still got a hole in one. That being said, I got a hole-in-one and that kind of flattery is rewarded here. –Austen
AUSTEN HAD A HOLE IN ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! “Petrana.”
9. Toy Story’s Alien Hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
Toy Story is well represented on the Pixar Putt course, but this one is my personal favorite. It would be cooler if the claw did something, but what it looks like: cool concept, could be better executed. “Petrana.”
8. The inside-out hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
This is a pretty good hole to play with, although it isn’t really everything from the inside to the outside-thematic. If you painted this a little differently, I’m not sure I could guess. Well, it’s still a pretty good putt-putt hole. —Aust
7. The Luca Hole
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
I like the design very much – in theory. It is reminiscent of the climatic moment in the film when the three children have to cycle down the hill for the Portorosso Cup. However, it is the first hole in the experience and it is absolutely far too hard! Or maybe I’m just really bad at mini golf! “Petrana.”
6. The Ratatouille Hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
A rat’s perspective – nice. This hole is more complex than that Beetle’s life one thing and the little details, like the lettering on the milk carton, really make it (even if the chef’s hat isn’t too big, but okay, we can forgive that). The only downside is that I’m really not sure where to step here without accidentally poking a knife. “Petrana.”
5. The soul hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
This hole is so cool. The cityscape with the piano stairs looks great, is big and exciting and fits the film perfectly. It’s pretty simple which keeps it high on our list, but it’s really excellent. —Aust
4. The brave hole
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
That was really a pass / fail hole. The designers either set up a working archery target that you can shoot your ball at or they didn’t. Luckily they got through here and it instantly hits a top 5 spot on our list. –Austen
3. The Coco Hole
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
In this hole, the ball is placed on the strings of a guitar. It’s a fantastic feature and feels exciting – even when it puts the ball on rails. The course also has a massive bridge which is quite a challenge as the ball can bounce over the edge of the course if you cross the bridge too fast. Front to back, this totally captures the movie while being a fun and unique mini golf hole that would likely exist if it weren’t for that Coconut-thematically. –Austen
2. The top hole
Photo: Austen Goslin
That’s just cool! The house should … go up !! Just like the name of the movie! The only reason this isn’t complete is because we were too intimidated to try it out because we were afraid to break it but judging from video footage of people who actually played this hole successfully … it looks cool the end! “Petrana.”
1. The Finding Nemo Hole, my beloved
Photo: Austen Goslin
Photo: Petrana Radulovic
That’s what I’m talking about – the Finding Nemo Hole not only looks like it was lifted off the movie set, it was surprisingly tricky too! It’s not specifically aimed at ocean or fish, but it’s clear which movie it is from. Even if it’s difficult (those slats!), For someone as terrible at mini golf as I am, it’s still doable. Am I biased because Nigel the pelican is mine? Counterpart to Disneystrology? Possibly. “Petrana.”
All of these Pixar movies are available on Disney Plus, with Luca now out on Blu-Ray and DVD.
