Twitch streamer Ludwig Ahgren, who in April set a world record for most subscribers– with over 270,000 – has left the platform and will now stream exclusively on YouTube Gaming.
Ludwig managed the feat at the end of a 31-day streaming event, which began on March 14th and ran too damn long. He exceeded the previous record of Tyler “Ninja” Blevins.
The move was announced today by Ryan Wyatt, head of YouTube Gaming, who wrote:
I’m excited to announce that @LudwigAhgren will now be streaming exclusively on @YouTubeGaming.
Our focus is on building a world class VOD, short form, and live platform.
And I have to repeat it; we are still not done! Welcome to the family, Ludwig!
Ludwig’s own announcement was a little less diplomatic, posts a video where the purple car (Twitch) he drives explodes and he jumps in a red car (YouTube) to get back home and talks some shit about music streaming rights when the clip does comes to an end.
G / O Media can receive a commission
Hard maybe considering he built his entire thing on Twitch, but given the platform’s recent problems …especially when it comes to copyright– also understandable.
He probably wouldn’t jump out of charity; YouTube has long thrown big bucks into makers to get exclusive deals in hopes that by gaining big names, they can break down Twitch’s dominance in the streaming arena. As a matter of fact It’s only a few months ago that two other big streaming stars, DrLupo and TimTheTatman, took the same step
Lupo told the Washington Post this week that his deal with YouTube made him “lifelong safe”. He also said the deal will give him more flexibility to spend time with his family. Betar, meanwhile, did not comment explicitly on certain financial data, but noted in an interview with Insider that streaming on YouTube allows him, like Lupo, to spend more time with family.
