Jason Bischoff, former Saban director and currently in charge of global licensing at Funko, recently shared some fascinating information on a cool sounding one Power Rangers Video game concept that never hit the market known as the Project nomad.
“I had hoped, [develop] an ambitious open world co-op [game] that captured the energy, teamwork and history of the franchise through a new lens, ”explained Bischoff in an extensive Twitter thread. “Basically, ‘Arkham‘Ranger, right? Gotham knight five years earlier Gotham knight‘ Notice.”
That Power Rangers Franchise first came out in the US in 1993 Mighty Morphine Power Rangerswho have adapted the 16th season of the Japanese television series Great Sentai. The Rangers have since become an integral part of children’s television and regularly borrow in-suit and kaiju combat material from Great Sentai when filming new Power Rangers Scenes for an English-speaking audience, initially at Saban Entertainment and currently at Hasbro after the toy manufacturer took over the property in 2018.
Due to its popularity, Power Rangers has been used as the basis for several video games over the years, most recently the Legit Fantastic Marvel vs. Capcom-Style fighting game Power Rangers: Battle for the Net. It would only make sense for Saban, who still held the rights in 2016, to consider the possibility of turning the series into an open-world adventure at a time when the genre was growing in popularity. Unfortunately, the project never got over these preliminary talks.

“With so much circulating in the studio at the time, there was unfortunately no bandwidth or budget to support,” Bishoff explained. “What I did have, however, was an invaluable ‘blessing’ that I could explore independently. During early conversations with [developers and publishers] were cheap, ultimately time and major shifts in our business led to discussions Project nomad go out.”
Project nomad would have followed “a myriad of rangers” as they tried to free the planet Eltar from an unnamed occupying force. While a similar act at the end of the Power Rangers Turbo Series that Project nomad Conceptual art seems to represent an alliance between the original Mighty Morphine Power Rangers Team, their Alien Ranger colleagues and the Zeo Rangers, who were introduced in the fourth season of the same name. There’s no word on how the game should deal with a lot of these rangers being the same person under the suit (believe me, Power Rangers gets complicated) but I suspect alternate dimensions, why not.
“These things totally happen!” Bischoff adds. “The industry is based on ‘what could have been’. Let’s enjoy this amazing art first. “
