The Elvis Presley story is already a box office hit, as Baz Luhrman proved last year, but now we’re getting a whole different perspective: Priscilla’s. The new film, which focuses on Elvis’ wife Priscilla Presley, received its first trailer on Wednesday before hitting theaters later this year.
The latest film by Sofia Coppola (Lost in translation), Priscilla tells the story of Priscilla Ann Wagner (Cailee Spaeny) who would eventually marry Elvis (Jacob Elordi). But unlike other films where Elvis creates a whirlpool that engulfs the rest of the film, Coppola’s film seems to focus on Priscilla, at least in this brief preview. We go from scenes with Priscilla as a young girl to scenes with her and Elvis that make him feel a little more personal than the idol on stage.
Written and directed by Coppola, the film is based on Priscilla’s own memoir Elvis and I, which she co-wrote with Sandra Harmon. In addition to Spaeny and Elordi, Jorja Cadence and Dagmara Domińczyk will also star in the film. The film is produced and distributed by A24.
