Puppies are curious creatures. And sometimes this curiosity leads them to become destructive, unlucky Steam deck The owner found out recently.
Since its launch in 2022, Valve’s portable PC the Steam Deckwas a huge success for the company and helped usher in a new era of portable, Switch-like PC devices. While the Steam Deck is a sturdy and reliable device on most days, it does have some flaws. For example, according to a nice post on the website, it’s apparently not a good dog toy Steam deck Subreddit.
At the 15 th of April Reddit user GegeTheGreat posted some photos
I played on the deck and put it on the charger while I took a shower,” said GegeTheGreat. “That was my fault. I should have put it in the case like normal, but figured it would be good for a quick shower and more. “I put it on the nightstand.”
That wasn’t enough. Pebble, a cute and smart dog, pulled the Steam Deck down from the bedside table using the device’s charging cable. She then “snacked” the controller handles, deactivating the right trigger, bumper, D-pad and B button. Pebble’s owner says the device still works, but in some games they had to rebind the controls and holding the device was no longer “comfortable” due to the sharp plastic parts.
My city has contacted GegeTheGreat for further information and an update on the situation.
Since they recently lost their job and prefer to play the device in hand, GegeTheGreat reached out to the Steam Deck community for advice on how to repair or work around the puppy damage. Some suggested buying a new case. Others said the owner should visit repair locations to look for parts and pieces to replace the damage.
GegeTheGreat says they emailed Valve with pictures of the sweet but destructive pup, and they’re hoping another puppy lover at Valve will open the email and help. GegeTheGreat also wants to replace the Steam Deck shell, as some on the subreddit have recommended.
As for Pebble, it seems hard to be mad at such a cute pup. GegeTheGreat explains that they don’t blame Pebble at all.
“It was my mistake leaving it out, she is a curious puppy and I spend a lot of time with this device in my hands. No wonder she wants to investigate.”
Update: April 17, 2024, 4:45 p.m. ET: After this story was published, GegeTheGreat told My city that Pebble – the puppy – is doing great and that she hasn’t swallowed anything harmful while chewing on the Steam Deck.
They said it too My city that the Steam Deck is out of warranty and would cost $185 to repair the device.
“I’ll probably try to replace it myself because I like doing DIY stuff and don’t have the budget for that [Valve to fix it] currently,” said GegeTheGreat My city. “A stranger offered to fix it, but I had to send it to them and I’m impatient.”
As for starting a GoFundMe or asking for donations, GegeTheGreat said that was a bit “extreme,” but as more people reached out to her and talked about the incident, “they thought about it.”
