Reports about a game in the universe of Matt Reeves’ The Batman are obviously greatly exaggerated. On the morning of August 30, the Internet was full of rumors about the existence of such a game, and many hoped that such a project was real. But none other than James Gunnthe head of DC Films, stepped in to set the record.
The rumors come from an article on the news site puck Discussion of the state of Warner Bros. and the prospects of its CEO David Zaslav for selling assets. The article states that former Warner Bros. parent company AT&T has decided against selling the gaming division Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment because it is “too valuable to sell.” The article further claims that in addition to the upcoming penguin HBO seriesthere is a game in development “rooted in the 2022 The Batman Movie.” That one line got fans speculating what that could be and whether the game itself would be more closely tied to the movie or the Colin Farrell series. If true, this would be the first Batman Game set in Reeves’ universe. However, it seems that the game doesn’t actually exist.
On social media sites Topicsa user asked James Gunn directly if there was any truth to the rumors. Gunn succinctly dismissed them, saying, “Sadly, there is no truth to this at all.” For hopeful fans, however, the use of “sadly” might suggest that he hopes a project like this will exist at some point.
