A spaceship flying through a beautiful but threatening nebula. Cosmic horrors that delight in dreams and memories. This is our latest look at Exodusthe science fiction action role-playing game led by two former BioWare developers starring Matthew McConaugheyand it may well be the most enticing and exciting game in existence.
Exodus was revealed at the Game Awards last year and the studio behind it, Archetype Entertainment, is gearing up for a proper gameplay reveal with more theatrical trailers and a Q&A with studio founder James Ohlen (Dragon Age: Origins
“Do you know what fear is?” The Interstellar asks the astronaut. “The Mara Yama do. They live from it. These monstrous celestial bodies search for isolated targets in the darkest corners of the cluster, and much to the chagrin of their victims, the Mara Yama are interested in stealing more than just cargo. They want heads. Memories. emotions. The more twisted and tortured, the better.”
Exoduswhich promises to allow players to deal with the consequences of their actions between past and future through a unique time dilation mechanic, could be next Mass effect or Determination. Or it could be another interesting but flawed AAA experiment from a new studio still finding its footing in the murky landscape of the video game industry. Whatever the case, I bet it never feels as full of violent, strange and imaginative possibilities as it does in this trailer.
Real games that survive a brutal series of trade-offs, compromises, and unexpected pitfalls and end up as a finished product on the store shelf or in the download queue are almost never this good than the versions of it we imagine while we wait for their arrival. I don’t expect it to be any different Exoduswhich is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC, but doesn’t have a release window yet. At least we’ll always have this incredible teaser.
