Spider-Man: No Way Home swung into the hearts of the theatergoers not once, not twice, but three times. It changed an industry’s notion of what could be accomplished during a pandemic and could very well change the future of the cinema experience. But now, a full month after its release, the Marvel movie phenomenon is starting to wane, just a little. For the first time since its debut, Jon Watts’ trilogy capper appears to have dropped the number one spot at the weekly box office.
The new Scream, co-directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not), is likely to take the crown with a projected $30.6 million weekend. It’s a triumphant return for the meta-horror franchise, which has spanned over a decade since 2011 scream 4
ScreamThe numbers bode well for an industry still wondering how to act in uncertain times. Outside of scream 4Flop, 2022 Scream Opening weekend is similar to making money scream 3 manufactured in 2000 ($34.7 million) and what scream 2 manufactured in 1997 ($32.9 million). While Scream is undoubtedly part of a franchise, it’s not one that’s had much nurturing in recent years, with just a three-part TV show on MTV and VH1 keeping the fire alive.
But returning stars like Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courtney Cox, not to mention the generally positive response, have built a level of excitement that seems to match how people used to feel Scream
But the news of the weekend most likely will be Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s likely second-place finisher of $20 million, which isn’t too shabby. According to independent checkout website The payment, No way home‘s gross for the weekend beginning January 14 was the ninth-highest earning all-time for a film in its fifth week of wide release. Put no way home’s fifth weekend in context, The Matrix Resurrections only earned $10 million during his first.
As Tom Holland and Zendaya slowly slip away from the top spot, the main question remains No way home so the movie will rise. It is expected to surpass and rise above the $700 million mark this weekend Black Panther the fourth-highest-grossing domestic film of all time and the second-highest-grossing Marvel film in the rankings (endgame is number two of all time, and The Force Awakens is number one). After passing Black Panther, the next rung to climb would be behind James Cameron avatar.
That might be a little tricky for Spidey at this point. avatar Earned $760 million, and show projections No way home slowing to around $730 million at this point. But of course the first projections for No way home were off, so there’s no reason to think it’s impossible. The next serious box office contender will likely land in March, when The Batman trying to capture a new magic.
