Lovers of Clone Wars it was expected that the final group of episodes would deliver the events of Revenge of the Sith, but probably not in such great fashion. Last Friday's "The Phantom Apprentice," a traditional pre-May episode Clone Wars the last series, former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and the mysterious Darth Maul clash with Mandalore over Anakin Skywalker's fate. Is Anakin good or bad? Will he save the galaxy, or lose the Order to become a knight of the Dark Side? Maul says he knows the truth (and he knows it), but Ahsoka is still optimistic – and he is fighting for his life to prove the gang.
In the history of Star Wars animation, there were no boxed-up battles for this episode. The reason has to do with everything that happens after the animation: unlike the hand-made combat before Clone Wars, the Ahsoka / Darth Maul face was based on a real fight between stunt player Lauren Mary Kim (Counterfeit, Alita: An Angel of War) and Maul himself, Ray Park.
"I wanted this fight to be great," Clone Wars Designer Dave Filoni says in a new video in the background. "And it made me think – and I've known Ray for a while – but why don't we bring Ray and take him a shot? May he be Maul again, physically fighting."
