Loving two people at the same time is complicated. It gets twisted when the two people you love are each loved by two different parts of your being. In a current one Vanity Fair interview, Severance payThe executive producer and director of Ben Stiller assures us that the second season will be about how an innie and an outie can love two different people and what happens when they do.

At the end of Severance payIn the first season of Mark's Innie, who exists only in the cubicles of the mysterious, nefarious company Lumon, she enters the outside world and discovers that his outie has a wife. While Outie Mark (Adam Scott) was under the impression that his wife Gemma (Dichen Lachman) was dead, Innie Mark knows she is alive after seeing her photo because Gemma is the silently tortured Ms. Casey, the wellness consultant from the Severed buildings that appeared in previous episodes. The only problem is that Innie Mark had already started an office romance with Innie Helly (Britt Lower). Stiller says season two will unravel the tangled web of this interdimensional love affair.

“Will Outie Mark find out that Innie Mark knows? And how will Outie Mark deal with it? At the same time, I think we've sort of built a relationship with Innie Mark and Helly inside that feels like it's going somewhere. So there’s a natural tension between Outie Mark’s interests and Innie Mark’s interests.”

In the world of severance pay, Hugs must be pre-approved by superiors, and communicating with yourself (well, your innie sending messages to your outie) can carry severe penalties. So when Innie uncovers an insidious connection between the outside and inside worlds, it will undoubtedly have unpleasant consequences in a season in which series creator Dan Erickson says, “Things are getting darker.” The Innies have been enlightened to their existence. But at what cost?

“The information that has come out that Mark's wife is alive – if that is actually something that people believe and pursue, of course that would have consequences for the future of Lumon,” Stiller explains. “And if Lumon is somehow exposed, what would happen to the lives of all these innies who basically only exist in Lumon?”

Stiller will likely suggest additional questions to his and Scott's questions that we should consider Severance pay Podcast when it premieres on January 7th, ten days before the show itself returns on the 17th.
