She-Hulk’s Mr. Immortal cameo ties into Marvel’s greatest Avengers team

She-Hulk: Lawyer does the legacy of the She-Hulk comics well by coming up with as many obscure superhero legal situations as possible.

And in this week’s episode, it’s made not one, but two firsts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one that’s likely to be a big deal in the show’s rising stakes, and one that… probably definitely isn’t.

In Episode 6, “Just Jen,” Jen attends an awkward Thursday wedding while her paralegal Nikki and colleague Mallory Book are back in the office to take care of the episode’s subplot: a “divorce case” with the famous Founder Avenger, Mister Immortal.

Mister Immortal has the superpower to return from death almost immediately if killed. Unfortunately, he has used this power to sneak out of seven marriages so far by faking his death and disappearing as soon as he got bored. Through an online forum called Intelligencia, his seven ex-spouses discovered his deception and are suing him for damages, and he needs GLK&H’s help. The character choice made comic readers perk up She Hulk‘s references usually do this.

Who is Mister Immortal?

Oh, you’ve never heard of Mister Immortal? Well, he founded the *cough cough* Avengers. Sorry, I’ll make it clearer. He founded the *mumble mumble* Avengers.

OK, he founded the Great Lakes Avengers. The Avengers of the Midwest.

Created by John “Put She-Hulk on the Map” Byrne on the pages of West Coast AvengerMister Immortal’s powers in the comics are essentially what they are She Hulk. It’s not that he can’t die, it’s that he dies all the time and always comes back in a minute or two, which is horrifying. His real name is Craig Hollis, and he discovered his inability to die after – you know what? It’s a depressing story, let’s skip it. Along with a few other Midwestern superheroes, he formed his own local superhero team, the Great Lakes Avengers.

Here’s another fun fact about Mister Immortal: He’s on a short list of Marvel characters who will be the last living when our universe dies, and someone who could potentially become the next cosmos’ Galactus. Clean!

But Mister Immortal’s case was a chance for She-Hulk: Lawyer to point out what could possibly be the final climax of the series: the Intelligencia.

in the She-Hulk: Lawyer, Intelligencia appears to be a Reddit-style forum, with public and private sub-forums. In the sub-forums, Mallory and Nikki discover one dedicated to hating She-Hulk, full of violent threats and other nastiness.

What is the intelligence?

Hulk fans will perk up at the mention of the Intelligencia, an alliance of Marvel Comics’ greatest villains the greatest good muscular strength: the Hulk and all his gamma-irradiated counterparts. And it looks like She Hulk is, if not naming the people behind the website as the big culprits, then at least using that “intelligencia” term to reflect an existential threat to Jennifer Walters.

As seen in the last moments of She Hulk‘s sixth episode, a tech-equipped organization appears to be linked to Intelligencia, as are the builders who tried to jump back Jen in episode 3. They are secretly watching Jen and want her blood for supposedly nefarious causes.

With just three episodes left – and one Daredevil appearance – we can expect the action to start ramping up in She-Hulk, and it looks like Intelligencia is playing a big part in that.
