Welcome to Morning Music, Kotaku‘s hangout for people who love video games and the cool sounds that they make. Today I’m going to remind you all how much the music is in there SimCity 4 Face slaps. Granted, I just did it, but now I’ll get into that.

SimCity 4 (Playlist /. long game /. VGMdb) is seen by many, including me, as the highlight of the series. Like (almost) all other games in the franchise, SimCity 4 it’s about building and managing a city. And if you are like most people, if you are bored with them and want to move on, destroying cities is also about them. SimCity 4 Many features and mechanics were improved over the previous games, but more to our point, it also had one of the best soundtracks ever.

Let’s listen:

I’ve spent many, many hours playing games SimCity 4Almost all of these traces are burned into my brain, hidden in a vault that cannot be forgotten. And I’m happy about that, because this music is good. All of these tracks are perfect for building and thinking. This is the kind of music you need when deciding where to place a new highway. To listen “Through the bayAnd tell me that you don’t feel the need to think about town planning:

Little behind the scenes, I often write these posts piece by piece while I work on other things. So I went between that last paragraph and this paragraph and downloaded and installed it again SimCity 4. That’s the power of this music. I just want to tinker and plan. It’s funny to me that I never knew what these tracks were called. In my mind I had goofy or descriptive names for some of them based on how they sound. For example, I have the track “metropolis“The Future Church Song.” Listen and tell me I’m wrong!

The SimCity 4 Soundtrack was composed by Jerry Martin with the help of several collaborators, including Andy Brick, The Humble Brothers, Walt Szalva and Edwin Dolinski (not all tracks have clear attributions). When you’ve played a SimThe Maxis branded game is very likely between the 90s and mid-2000s. Much of the music was composed by Martin. He’s also made music for commercials and big brands like Toyota and the NBA. His work in SimCity 4 could be one of his best, mixing jazzy beats and bold instruments with almost comical-epic scores. We’re just building cities, Jerry, we don’t need any of that. On the other hand, we also build large cities on large continents in just a few hours. I think that’s pretty epic and worth singing some angels, which by the way I called the Humble Brothers track. “epicenter. ”
