25 years after we first went Welcome to the jamthe Looney Tunes Toons are back on the basketball court. On Saturday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacyand gave us our first look at Lebron James and the full starting grid for the best basketball team on earth.
The trailer introduces us to Lebron James, a talented basketball player and struggling father. LeBron urges his kids to be just as great on the court – but it doesn’t exactly work. A few mishaps later, the athlete finds himself in the realm of Looney Tunes, where we meet Bugs, Lola, Tweety, Yosemite Sam and the Tasmanian Devil.
In addition to casting some of the best cartoon characters Warner Bros. could muster, A new legacy There’s also a star-studded human cast of real NBA players, including Chris Paul, Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, Draymond Green, and Anthony Davis. Don Cheadle plays the villain, a computer simulation that sucks LeBron and the Toons into his 3D Hell of Warner Bros. IP. On the Digi-Court, LeBron competes against the Goon Squad – no connection to Jennifer Egan’s acclaimed novel.
The trailer also contains references to both the original film and other Warner Bros. films. Similar to Ready player oneThe iron giant appears. For a character who didn’t have love in the 90s, the giant is sure to find new life in IP-friendly remixes.
Space Jam: A New Legacy will debut in theaters and on HBO Max on July 16.
