Pokémon brilliant diamond and S.Hining pearl are only a week old today, and yet a speedrunner has already figured out how to get through them in well under an hour. The secret? They are “so broken”.
As discovered by TechRaptor, YouTuber Werster has completed Shiny pearl in 50 minutes and 36 seconds. Which is crazy considering the game is supposed to last around 30 hours. You can see the whole thing right here:
“It was a lot of fun doing the glitch hunt,” Werster explains in the video as he pounds through the opening sequences and conversations. He then correctly grabs Piplup and off we go.
“The remakes are so broken that you can beat them in less than an hour! ”Werster explains in the description of the video before listing the glitches with which the time was reached. “Menu storage (and double / triple versions of it), door storage, clipping of cutscenes in OoB, trainer menu storage, Poke Doll Battles, Surf on Land, Early E4, Fast Cynthia. “
He adds that the run was “nowhere near perfect,” although he credits himself with the first game played in less than an hour. This, of course, implies that faster times should appear soon.
I love how completely silly speed running looks when it’s a slow, posh little RPG Pokémon. Even the faulty cheats are executed so slowly, so quietly – check around 7:30 a.m. when it floats so quietly through the map to reach distant countries when it shouldn’tA.
If I were a big game publisher, I would be hiring so many Speedrunner as I could during the QA phase. TThere is no better group of people to discover every bug and bug in your game and fix them all well in advance of its release.
Werster obviously had a good time building and delivering this run. His narrative is consistently – if sparse – mostly very good natured. Even if he realizes he went into battle without fighting the monsters he needs. As he says at the end of the video description: “It was fantastic. Blessed game. “
