'Switch 2 Leaker' Sentenced by Okami Creator for Ruining Surprise

Hideki Kamiya, the director behind it Platinum Games' Bayonetta series which is currently being worked on Okami 2 under a new studio, has I've never been one to hold back. The latest targets of his wrath are switch 2 leaks who basically beat Nintendo weeks ago when the console was unveiled. Kamiya took advantage of the opportunity Yesterday there was the official announcement of the new console for unloading on anonymous online users.

“I hope everyone who leaked information about Switch 2 will be doomed to have poop on the soles of their shoes when they go home for the rest of their lives,” Kamiya wrote on social media after a translation of VGC. “Now I was happy about the surprising announcement of the new thing Eyes Like everyone else, I think all these damn leakers should be cursed.”

Okami 2 was by far the biggest surprise announcement at the 2024 Game Awards when Capcom revealed the sequel PS2 cult classic amid a musical medley played toward the end of the show. Aside from the new game being in early development, the second surprise was that Kamiya, who had directed the original, would be returning to lead the development of the sequel at a new studio called Clovers.

“The dirty leaker acts only for his own pleasure and self-satisfaction,” he continued, according to a machine translation of the remarks. “Not only is he of no use to anyone, he causes all kinds of loss of opportunity and is a piece of shit not to be proud of. “He should be covered in shit and thrown out of the atmosphere and then stop thinking and wander around forever.”

While leaks have always been an important part of video game culture, with rabid fans everywhere searching for possible information about upcoming projects and hardware, social media and forums have taken the practice to new heights in recent years. The Switch 2 was a perfect example, with key features ranging from the magnetic Joy-Con to rumored motherboard specs leaked months in advance. Earlier this month, complete 3D printed models were circulating at CES 2025 and turned out to be extremely accurate.

It's hard to say what impact this might have had on Nintendo's eventual official Switch 2 reveal this week. Most of the millions of people who bought the first one probably aren't sitting on their phones looking for new rumors or speculation. Nevertheless, former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang suggested in a recent episode of her podcast that the company was probably upset about all the leaks.

“[Nintendo]“We have been disturbed by these leaks on a daily basis for months, and I am 100 percent sure that they are truly crazy, to the most serious level,” Yang said. “We joke, but… they're very, very, very upset about it.”
