Nintendo Switch was an extraordinary success, but it couldn't take forever. When the hybrid handheld approaches the eighth birthday, Nintendo said that Switch hardware sales had dropped by 30% compared to the previous year, while game turnover decreased by 24%. Nintendo was forced to reduce his forecasts for the second quarter in a row. It is now predicted that it will sell 11 million counter in its current financial year (which ends on March 31), from an original estimate of 13.5 million. It also lowered its profit forecast for the year.
These falling numbers are not a mystery. Although Nintendo held back the announcement of the Switch 2 as late as possible, it has long been recognizable that the switch approached the end of its life. Eight years are a long lifespan for every video game console, leaks and rumors about the Switch 2 were widespread, and the software support from Nintendo for the switch was particularly thin.
However, the switch's exhausted drop in sales should not affect the great extent of the success that it has achieved over his lifespan. Nintendo has now sold 150.86 million switches-the 154 million record of the Nintendo DS, the second best gaming device ever. Even if the switch has taken into account the publication of the Switch 2, the switch is almost safe this year and becomes Nintendo's most successful console of all time.
In order to become the best -selling console of all time, however, the change would have to surpass the lifelong sales of PlayStation 2 of over 160 million units. This ultimate award is probably – if only – outside the range.
