Every Pokemon is interesting and worth talking about. I don’t play a lot Pokémon, but I enjoy the universe and I love learning more about the creatures in it. So here’s another Pokemon! It’s Teddiursa!

I had a big breakfast a few mornings ago and covered it with some maple syrup. Then my hands felt sticky for the next few hours. I washed them and still found sticky spots. Do you know what else this annoying trait has? Honey. Today’s Pokémon Teddiursa knows this all too well, considering that it spends much of its day sucking its own paws forever coated in sweet, sweet honey.

Teddiursa is a teddy bear-like Pokemon creature who loves honey, just like this other famous animated bear. You know the one. Smokey Bear. And after Pokedex entries listed on BulbapediaThis love for honey resulted in a * WINKS * situation. Because it eats so much honey, its paws have ingested a lot of the sticky, sweet stuff, and it is forever cursed to have paws that taste really good. This leads to them sucking on the tasty paws when they have some free time.

There is another problem with extremely sticky paws: things that stick to them. I imagine that after a few days, Teddiursa’s paws are covered only with sticks, leaves, beetles, flowers, blades of grass, acorns and everything else they come across in the forest. A future Pokemon game should take advantage of this and give Teddiursa the ability to hurl random small objects during a fight. (Let’s go, game freak. Free idea. Happy Holidays.)

Random facts

  • So here is a strange fact that shows up in some Pokedex entries: “Every set of paws tastes unique.” Uh … hey how do you know? Who licked these bears’ paws?
  • I can’t stop thinking about that last fact. Who decided this was important information? And again, how was that learned? Has some creepy guy just started catching Teddiursas on the truckload and licking all of their paws?
  • Why was this allowed and who thought it was a good idea to publish their research results?
