Nier: machines The PC port was a disaster, one so bad that we made headlines about it like “It’s ridiculous that Nier: Automata still hasn’t been patched on the PC“, And then when Square Enix seemed unwilling (or unable) to fix the problem”Fan creates patch to fix Nier: Automata’s Graphics.”
And that was again in 2017! It is now 2021 and the game still hasn’t been updated, but with a Game Pass release on the way, Square Enix has finally been forced to act. A patch for the Steam version was announced in April, although with no accompanying release date, fans again grew impatient, wondering when Square Enix would ever get around to fixing this.
It turns out that this week it will be what Square Enix calls the “Steam Patch” with a scheduled July 15th release. This will try and fix … well, all sorts of things:
- Borderless video settings have been implemented.
- A Fidelity FX CAS function has been added.
- The system will now recognize whether HDR has been activated in the Windows display settings and will automatically start the game in HDR mode if this is the case.
- Adjustments to the anti-aliasing functionality
- Approximately 270 UI textures for icons, backgrounds and UI elements, etc. now support 4K resolutions.
- The bit rate has been improved and all pre-rendered cutscenes have been adjusted so that they are now played at 60 FPS and displayed in the correct aspect ratio without stretching the image.
- A new function “Global Illumination” has been implemented. This can be set at three different levels; High, Medium or Low.
- Ambient occlusion and bloom effects rendering targets have been changed to dynamic resolution based on the game’s resolution.
- It is now possible to switch between the last selected display modes for screenshots, e.g. B. between full screen and windowed mode or between borderless and windowed mode by pressing the Alt + Enter keys at the same time.
- The mouse pointer is no longer displayed when using a gamepad controller.
- The frame rate has been stabilized at 60 FPS in the standard settings.
- Other stability-related fixes have also been implemented.
That should either have been present at the start or work, or it should not be shortly afterwards! It’s a shame fans had to wait four years for this, and it’s a shame they had to use community-created workarounds instead of official support all along.
