Torgal is a prominent character in Final Fantasy XVI. Clive’s Frostwolf companion is a constant throughout our hero’s adventure and as such he encounters many of the heroes and villains that the Dominant of Ifrit befriends and fights throughout the world of Valisthea. Now we also know that he’s a perceptive little guy who has an opinion about the characters Clive meets on his journey. This additional layer of the puppy’s personality was revealed in the game’s latest update 1.21, released alongside Shadows dropped Echoes of the Fallen
Spoilers for Final Fantasy XVI consequences.
The fans then took notice Echoes of the Fallen Started last night The Game Awards. In the Grand Cast menu, which illustrates specific connections between different characters and the world, there is now an “Inner Voice” option, which adds a small text box next to each portrait that tells you what Torgal says about different people in the history of the game thinks.

Some of them are very sweet, such as the statement that he and Clive “make a strong pack,” or another that says that the now-grown Jill is stronger than he remembers her from her childhood. Others provide insight into how he recognizes various members of Clive’s hideout. This often happens through activities like playing fetch with him or riding on his back. But perhaps most heartbreaking is Cid, who tragically dies in the early hours of the game. Instead of Torgal thinking of Cid’s sacrifice with respect like everyone else, the little guy just doesn’t know what happened to him. His inner voice simply asks, “Where did he go?”
This is heartbreaking. I love being reminded that animals don’t understand death and have no idea that it happens to us all, and they just think that people who die have abandoned them.
Echoes of the Fallen is available now and the second planned DLC, The coming flood, will be released in 2024. While we don’t know much about it yet, we do know that it will feature Leviathan, a fan-favorite summon that was mentioned but not introduced Final Fantasy XVI correct.
