At a time when games seem to be shutting down all the time, it’s impressive to see Microsoft and 343 Industries continuing to provide support and updates Halo: The Master Chief Collection almost a decade after its initial publication. And the next update, coming on July 12th, is huge, adding a ton of new content to the already huge collection classic gloriole games.
It’s easy to forget that in 2023 The Master Chief Collection was not released to critical acclaim or cheering fans. As a matter of fact, its initial release was in November 2014 was a huge, embarrassing mess that was heavily criticized for network issues, missing content, poor performance, and other issues. But over the years 343 added more games to the collection such as: Hello Reach
On 10th of July 343 revealed all the details about the upcoming update via its official website. And there’s a lot more to come MCC. Here are some of the highlights:
- Firefight now supports up to eight players and you can find games through the in-game browser. firefight inside MCC will also support Join In Progress, allowing players to continue mid-game or return after a disconnect.
- 343 also adds options to Firefight that allow you to restore the 3v3 generator protection mode that was only available in Hello Reach‘s network beta test.
- After the July 12 update Halo 4Campaign and Spartan Ops modes support Theater mode. 343 warns that things might be a bit strange as this feature uses legacy code from an older pre-release of Halo 4
- Halo 3 gets a new mode: Slayer escalationaka gun game aka this mode of counterstrike And call of Duty Where you get a new weapon every time you kill someone. 343 had already added this game type to others gloriole games in MCC So it’s nice to see that it’s here Halo 3.
- 343 also added three pieces of gear – Invincibility, Active Camouflage, and Auto Turret Halo 3‘s campaign in its multiplayer sandbox. These will be available in Forge and others hello 3cCustom game modes.
- The Acrophobia Skull can now be activated Halo: Combat Evolved. This in-game modifier already available in others gloriole games in MCC, lets players fly around freely in single player mode. Perfect for people looking for Easter Eggs or wanting to experience the original campaign in a whole new way.
Cut content from Halo’s past is coming to MCC on PC
Finally a bunch of cut content from gloriole And halo 2 will be added MCC on PC via mods. 343 has been working with modders over the past year to help uncover and reimplement all manner of cut content from this classic Bunige era gloriole
343 published a separate blog post I’ll go into more detail on all the things that were cut out and pasted back into the game and how that process worked. You should definitely check it out if you’re interested in such things.
Keep in mind that all of this cut content, at least for now, will be implemented via mods and is therefore only available on the PC version.
And that’s not even all this update adds. It’s great to see that a game that’s almost a decade old continues to get such fantastic free support. The Master Chief Collection is an incredibly playable archive for gloriole fans. I really wish more publishers and developers would copy Microsoft’s work here and create similar comprehensive collections for other great video game franchises.
