Star Wars: Unlimitedthe latest big-budget trading card game to compete against Magic the Gathering And Disney Lorcanahas had an extremely successful start. Critics praise the excellent gameplay, which is why the product is still in short supply in retail stores. But the design team at Fantasy Flight Games isn’t letting off the sublight drive accelerator any time soon. A case in point is a series of livestreams covering the second set called “ Shadows of the Galaxy. The first, which aired on Wednesdayprovided information on new characters, hints on mechanics and more like a star cruiser.
Lead game designer Tyler Parrott set the tone early on, noting that the set would not focus on a specific point in the history of the Star Wars universe, but rather a specific type of character.
“This is not a period set,” Parrott said. “This is a set for all the things that have existed outside the law throughout all Star Wars eras.” This message was delivered in front of a poster featuring artwork for fan favorite Cad Bane and the good Dr. Chelli Lona Aphra herself could be seen.
“There is also a prominent Mandalorian theme in the set,” Parrott continued, which is consistent with the larger themes throughout the set, as the last surviving Mandalorians were isolated following the fall of their home planet of Mandlore.
Other characters featured during the stream include Enfys-Nest, Moff Gideon, and even second-rate thief Bala Tik and the Guavian Death Gang.
“This is not the start of preview season,” noted host Xander Tabler. Instead, fans should expect additional information to slowly roll out over the coming months. Star Wars: Unlimited – Shadows of the Galaxy is expected to be available in retail stores in July.
